Why a map

Most practitioners collect techniques. Few build a game.

A sweep on Monday. A pass on Wednesday. A leg lock from a video on Friday. Twelve weeks later you know more moves, but they don't connect, and your rolls still break in the same places.

Progress in jiu-jitsu comes in blocks: a few months on passing, a few on half guard. The A-Game Map gives each block one clear direction and keeps it where you'll see it every day.

What's on the map

Your whole block on one page

Five sections, each with one job. Tap one to see where it sits on the map.

The 12-Week A-Game Map laid flat
  1. Name a system or capability you'll build, not a vague aspiration. Add a success metric, a target date, why it matters and your weekly session target.

  2. Map four systems as chains from start to finish: opening, bottom, top and recovery. Every technique leads to the next, including what you do when your partner reacts.

  3. Where does your sequence most often break? Name it and you know exactly what to work on next.

  4. Each week, mark whether you trained, reviewed your rolls and journaled. Twelve weeks of habits at a glance, with running totals.

  5. Every three weeks, write down the single most valuable lesson and the adjustment you'll make next. Observe, adjust, test again.

How it works

Train. Review. Reflect. Adjust.

  1. Week 0

    Set the block

Choose one outcome. Fill in your four systems with what actually happens in your rolls, not what you wish happened.

  2. Every session

    Train

Check the map before class so you know which link you're working on. Tick T.

  3. Every week

    Review & reflect

Watch back a roll or two and write it up in your journal. Tick R and J.

  4. Every 3 weeks

    Adjust

Write down your key learning and next adjustment. If your weak link has moved, update it.

Week 12 isn't the finish line. It's where you choose your next block.

Better together

Built to pair with the journal

The journal captures the details of every session. The map keeps the big picture visible. Use them together and every session feeds the block you're building.

Questions

Good to know

What size is it?

24 × 16 in (61 × 41 cm), landscape, printed on matte poster paper. It ships unframed and fits a standard 16 × 24 frame if you'd like to hang it that way.

What should I write with?

Pencil if you want to revise as the block evolves, or a fine pen if you'd rather commit. The matte finish takes both.

Can I reuse it?

Each map covers one 12-week block. When the block ends, keep it as a record of what you built and start your next block on a fresh map.

Do I need the Bushido Journal?

No, the map works on its own. It's designed to pair with the journal: the journal holds the session-by-session detail, and the map holds the direction.

What level is it for?

Any belt. Newer practitioners use it to turn the few things they know into a simple chain. Experienced practitioners use it to sharpen one system at a time.
